Orixa uses Orixa |
Orixa uses Orixa! We are great believers in using our own system as a mechanism for ensuring that we understand how it works, and we see any bugs or flaws in the system. Orixa Ltd's own CRM and Project management systems are built using an Orixa App, and they serve the business extremely well. Even the Orixa website (which you are reading right now) is generated with an Orixa App which shows the range of outputs that the Orixa Framework is capable of. |
Solutions for Fairtrade and Organic Farming Systems
Cocoa
Cocoa production in Ghana |
Our systems help monitor the Fairtrade status of tens of thousands of small-holder cocoa farmers, including monitoring their individual farm-sizes, cocoa production and Fairtrade Premium payments. Prior to adoption of our systems businesses struggled to cope with the sheer volume of farmer and procurement data, and suffered from issues of stock shrinkage as well as difficulties in the monitoring of measures such as cocoa-movement between their field-offices, depots and ports. Now the system has been extended and can also be used to manage processes such as election of farmer-representatives at farmer village and district level groups. Detailed Case Study |
Coffee
Coffee drying in Uganda |
In coffee, processing the quality of processed bean out-turn from each farmer is critical. Triple AAA high-grade beans have significantly more value than lower grades. We developed a traceability system that enabled the business to monitor the quality out-turn per farmer enabling the easy payment of quality-related bonuses which incentivize farmers to improve quality. Our systems also gave the business a whole process-chain picture of loses and shrinkages as beans were processed, sorted and graded, as well as monitoring whether farmers were following Organic and Fairtrade production requirements. Organic palm oil processing | An Organic palm oil business adopted our systems and uses it throughout its production processes. The system monitors all farmers, who are registered as Organic, requiring careful inspection and monitoring of their farm-practices. It also manages production and stock management processes at the factory, including automated weighing of incoming goods on the company’s weighbridge and systems for monitoring water and waste. For this company's Orixa system a Bulk SMS Sending capability has been added, to allow the company to send farmers and staff members SMS messages, enabling more effective communication. Vanilla
Organic and Fairtrade vanilla farming and processing |
The production of finished Vanilla from the raw "vanilla bean" is a complex multi-stage process which includes stages of pre-cooking, fermentation and drying. We have developed systems to assist processing businesses to monitor the effectiveness of each of these stages to watch for loses and shrinkage that can result from poor handling or pilfering. In the case of this system the processing business’s product is Organic and Fairtrade, meaning that accurate traceability data must also be recorded to link finished batches to the farmers who supplied it. Additionally, some customers also buy non-Organic and non-Fairtrade product, requiring careful management segregation of products and complex computations of Fairtrade premium requirements for farmers. |
Dynamic Agro-forestry
Coconut trees growing within a dynamic agro-forestry plantation |
In Samoa thousands of farmers grow coconuts in organic, fair trade certified farms. To maximize the sustainability of the production of farm-products farmers are encouraged to grow a wide variety of crops in a dynamic farming practice which maximizes soil fertility and farm-output. In this business Orixa systems are used to monitor production of crops by farmers, manage procurement and traceability. The business's focus on dynamic agro-forestry means that each farmer can grow 30 or more crop varieties even on quite small farm-plots. The system helps to keep track of all these cultivation processes, and advise on which ones work together best. The system is also used at the factory to monitor processing and outputs from the production process, and to guarantee that farmers only bring the appropriate quantities of each product they are cultivating.
