Using "ProductPrices" to monitor and update prices.
There are times when it is necessary to raise prices for a product.
It is useful to be able to note times in the future when price-changes may occur.
To do this in FMSys, add records to the "ProductPrices" data-table, with a date set in the future.
You can then see when these changes are due to take place, by checking in the Diary, where they will show, in red.
Viewing and Adding ProductPrices
The ProductPrices data-table exists to keep track of changes to prices of products. If a staff member updates the price of a product, in certain situations a "ProductPrices" record will be added automatically to the system.
If staff are planning to raise prices it can be useful to add additional records to the ProductPrices data-table. If these are added with a "Date" in the future, then a record of the proposed change can be seen in the Diary, so that staff can make the update.
Adding New "ProductPrices"
- In the SystemEntities screen, find the "products" entity.
- Click on "Actions" and the menu will appear, click on "Add new ProductPrices"
Product Prices Edit Window and Diary View
- In the FMSys Diary, a "ProductPrices" entry has been added. Tick this to see ProductPrices records in the Diary-view.
- The ProductPrices Edit Window. Note the "DateStart", this controls the date on which the record will appear in the diary and should be the date you intend to update the price.
- PriceApplied tick-box. When a new record is created this tick-box will be unticked, and the record will appear red in colour in the Diary. Once a staff member has applied the new price (ie updated the "SalesPrice" in the Product's record) they should then tick this field. Once ticked the ProductPrices records appear grey (completed) in the diary.
The above method means that any forgotten ProductPrices will show up brightly in red in the diary.
FUTURE IMPROVEMENT. I would like to extend the ProductPrices Entity, adding an Action "Update Product's Price Now" … I haven't yet done this. I will do it if it is useful.
